Title: GHOSTLY WEIRD STORIES No. 123
Place Published:
Publisher:Star [Indicia: Star Publications, Inc.]
Date Published: June, 1954
Description:

CGC certified: VG+ (4.5). Off-white pages. Cover: L.B. Cole. Stories and art: Jay Disbrow, uncredited others. GPAnalysis: No reported sales in this grade. A 4.0 sold for $530 in December 2019, and a 6.0 sold for $1320 in November 2019.

L.B. Cole explains his "black light" effect: "I simply went ahead and produced a predominantly black cover. The results were astounding... so much so that I repeated the treatment again. And again the results were staggering.... Again I go back to the value of black. What lies beyond? You don't know. The implied threat can be far more devastating than showing a guy's brains being blown out. Anticipation and culmination. The value of black is what the viewer will read into that black space. The reader... will read the most horrible aberrations into it." — "L.B. Cole: The Man Behind the Mask." Interview by E.B. Boatner, The Comic Book Price Guide. Overstreet: 1981, pp. A-62-63.

A limited edition of 150 softcover and 15 hardcover catalogues is available. 400 lots, fully illustrated. Fun reference, great keepsake. Softcover $30, deluxe hardcover with dust jacket and limitation plate $200. Ten of the 15 hardcovers are pre-ordered and the rest will go quickly, so reserve yours now.
