This painting is a fragment of a larger painting which was offered in its complete form at an auction in Versailles in 1967 (see provenance). It is registered at RKD, The Hague, as by the hand of Gommaert van der Gracht.
Condition:
Oil on lined canvas, the relining consists of two sewn canvases. Pain surface shows a degree of wear in places, with a network of craquelure. Slight colour abrasions along the edges.
Under UV: some retouching visible along the edges and in the background. Further minor retouching on the still life elements and the figure. Varnish fluoresces greenish.
Dimensions with frame: 90.5 × 108.5 cm.
