Antique 1876 Landscape painting signed and dated by listed artist.

"Twilight Before the Sunrise", by W.P. Gardner, 1876, signed and dated at the right corner; oil on canvas.

The painting is c.18" x 12" [45.7cm x 30.4cm], authentic mid. 19th century stretches, and original antique frame. The condition of the picture is consistent with its age. It has some surface damages, and several old restorations and repairs [see photos].

The history of the ownership can be followed up to the nineteenth century. The interested buyer will receive the detailed provenance.

W.P. Gardner, (active 1870s-1880s) was an artist located in London. He was primarily specialized and known as an illustrator and engraver. His oil paintings are rare. One W.P. Gardner painting was sold at Christie's auction "Important English Pictures" in 1988.

The back of the canvas is stamped " Geo. Royney C. 52. Rathbone Place and 29. Oxford Street W. LONDON." Rowney Company, founded in 1783, was specialized on art supplies. George Rowney took over the leadership of the company in 1837.
