Sword of high French officer of the I French Empire. Chiselled brass represents the mythical scene of Napoléon's favourite painter, Jacques-Louis David, ''Oath of the Horatii'' and on both sides two classic helmets and a dolphin head. It is an extremely rare piece, and given its preservation condition it is even more valuable. As you can see the blade almost completely retains the blue and all the gold on the decorations. There is no trace of rust. On the heel of the blade we can see the manufacturer's mark written on a golden S&K square. The hilt features the typical lion's head from the end of the Directory and the beginning of the First Empire as well as a mother-of-pearl plaque. The scabbard appears to have been repaired at one point but invisible to the naked eye It's a real gem of a piece. Insured shipping and pick-up point if possible.
