Gerrit Rietveld - Cassina - Armchair (1) - Utrecht

Offered in new condition, the original iconic Cassina 'Utrecht Armchair'. Most exclusive fabrics (limited) version in a soft red - beige mix with the characteristic buttonhole stitch. Dimensions: 64 x 85 x 70 cm Cassina - Utrecht. Designer classic armchair Utrecht. During his architecture studies, Gerrit T. Rietveld got to know modern designers such as Berlage and Frank Lloyd Wright. In 1918, Rietveld joins the movement 'De Stijl' (The Style) , which was started by Theo van Doesburg, and begins making experimental furniture, such as the world-famous 'Red-blue chair'. Initially his designs are still unpainted, but around 1923 he starts using the colours that are so characteristic of De Stijl (The Style) . The Rietveld Schröder House in Utrecht was designed by Rietveld in 1924. It represents everything that De Stijl stood for. In 1935, Rietveld designed the Utrecht Armchair. In 1988, Cassina purchased the rights and since then it is part of the 'Cassina I Maestri' collection that also contains famous designs by Le Corbusier, Mackintosh, Wright and others.
