As shown in the photos, beautiful and uncommon sixteenth century book by Giovanni Battista Palatino entitled "Compendio Del Gran Volume De L'Arte Del Bene Et Leggiadramente Scrivere Tutte Le Sorti Di Lettere Et Caratteri, con le lor Regole Misure & Esempi" published in Rome by the heirs of Valerio & Luigi Dorico Fratelli in June 1566. In-4to (19. 8 x 13. 6 cm) , 18th-century marbled hardcover with flaws and label on the spine (see last photos) , 54 sheets (out of 64) that contain numerous woodcut calligraphic elements in the text, ornamented and engraved drop caps and woodcut imprint on full page at the end; missing part A and sheet Bi (a total of 10 sheets) , scattered stains, spots, writings, small tears and up to part D woodworm holes on the inner edge of the pages (see photos) , without interfering at all with the reading of the work. Giovanni Battista Palatino was the author of the best known and most printed Collection of Calligraphic Models of all times, which has always stood out for the quality of the engravings and for the quantity of letters depicted, testimony of a universal attention to writing addressed to all types of letters and interested in the graphic developments of which it is susceptible, regardless of practical use.
