Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720–1778), pair of architectural engravings, Italy, second half of the 18th century. Two highly elaborate etchings, each in a thick angled passe-partout and a heavy frame with burl wood veneer (slightly scratched, with small chips in places). Behind glass. The plates originate from the series ’Différentes vues de quelques Restes de trois grands Édifices qui subsistent encore dans le milieu de l’ancienne Ville de Pesto autrement Posidinia qui est située dans la Lucanie’, and depict a view of the Temple of Neptune and the Temple of Paestum respectively. Dimensions including frame 73 x 95.5 cm each.
