Giovanni Battista Piranesi (Italian, 1720-1778). An antique 18th Century engraved etching on paper. Titled, "Ruins of an Ancient Sepulcher Built in the Style of a Septizonium on the Appian Way," produced on two pages circa 1764. An Italian architectural landscape depicting Roman ruins, with figures, architectural elements, cattle, trees, and other forms. Italian printed to bottom describing the work. A print of the work from the same edition is held in the permanent collection of the Istituto Centrale Per la Grafica (Rome). Presented with a mat border in a gilt embellished museum quality carved wood frame. Sight size measures approximately 16.25" x 21.25".
Dimensions: 24 X 29.5 X .5 in.
Condition: Good to fair overall antique condition having mild age related surface wear and toning, with toning and foxing to mat, and central vertical page crease. Frame has moderate to heavy storage wear and losses to edges and corners. Estate fresh to the market.
