Giovanni Piranesi 18C. Antique St Peter Engraving
Giovanni Battista Piranesi (Italian, 1720-1778). An antique 18th Century engraved etching on paper. Titled, "View of the Exterior of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican," produced circa 1748. An Italian architectural landscape depicting the Baroque Roman palace with figures, architectural elements, cattle, trees, and other forms. Italian printed to bottom describing the work. A print of the work from the same edition is held in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art ("The Met") (New York City). Presented with a mat border in a gilt embellished museum quality carved wood frame. Sight size measures approximately 16.25" x 23.5".

Condition: Good to fair overall antique condition having mild age related surface wear and toning, with toning and foxing to mat. Frame has mild to moderate storage wear to edges and corners. Estate fresh to the market.
