Giuseppe Palma- San Pietro

This painting, signed ‘Giu. Palma fece 1840’, was painted by Giuseppe Palma, a painter from Abruzzo (Italy) , active in the first half of the19th century, of whom there is not much news.
. In the church of S. Nicola di Mira in Rodi Garganico, province of Foggia, near the Purgatory altar, there is a painting depicting the Holy Trinity with the city of Assisi on the background suspended between clouds and angels while, in the foreground, are the Saints Alfonso dei Liguori and Thomas Aquinas. The work, dating back to 1844, has been considered by critics as an overlapping of styles typical of the time and attributed to the Abruzzo painter Giuseppe Palma.

. The painting in question, still of 18th-century imprint, depicts St. Peter with his proper attributes: the keys to the kingdom of heaven that Jesus promised to give him, and the rooster, as a reminder that the saint denied Christ before it sang three times.

. The painting has a slight waviness due to the use of oil on a large paper surface.

. Coeval frame in solid walnut wood and vintage blown glass. Thickness: 5 cm. Vintage iron nails with rectangular section.

. Dimensions: 69 x 55 cm with frame.
