Giuseppe Ponga was born in Chioggia in 1856 and was a Venetian painter, graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice. He was inspired by the landscape models of the great 18th-century painting, particularly Giovan Battista Tiepolo and Francesco Guardi. Thanks to his skills, Ponga received prestigious commissions such as the decorations of the Parliament Palace in Budapest, those of the Cinerary Pavilion at the 1910 Rome Exhibition, and some rooms of the Royal Palace of Venice. In Venice, he is famous for the ten Neo-18th-century panels that adorn the famous café "Quadri sotto i portici di piazza San Marco". Ponga died in Venice in 1925.
