Gloria. ‘A portrait study of a native Indian, head and shoulders, oil on paper, signed lower right, 100cm x 76cm, together with 8 informal colour ‘at home’ photographs of Sean Connery – 7 showing the painting in the background. The photos were taken when Sean Connery visited Gloria at her flat in London. Provenance: From the estate of the late Gloria Gross. Born in South Africa in 1944 Gloria was a fashion designer, book illustrator, graphic artist. In 1965 she left South Africa and arrived in London and became part of the Swinging Sixties. Her design work in the UK, Europe and Japan built her reputation. In the early 1970’s Gloria was designing clothing for men, notably Tom Jones, Sean Connery and Stanley Baker. Later in her career she moved into commercial design and childrens' book illustration.
