[ translate ]

Workshop of Giovanni Francesco Barbieri, called Guercino
Cento 1591 - 1666 Bologna
God the Father

oil on canvas, with an unidentified collector's red wax seal on the reverse
unframed: 69.3 x 62.3 cm.; 27¼ x 24½ in.
framed: 83 x 72.7 cm.; 32⅝ x 28⅝ in.

Condition Report:
The canvas has a firm lining and the paint surface is dirty with a discoloured varnish. The paint surface has slightly worn (notably in the darker pigments). Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals scattered retouchings underneath the thick varnish: in the background and globe; concentrated bands (approx. 3.5cm thick) along the left and right margins; and fine lines scattered in his hands, drapery, beard and moustache (with a more notably patch on the left), and face (with more concentrated areas in his cheeks, nose and brow). In overall fairly good condition.
