The base features a carpet with floral motifs developed in the 18th century on the Coromandel coast surrounded by a frieze of thirty-six rose-cut diamonds. Details of great finesse. The elephant is in blue enamel and wears a saddle cloth on the back surrounded by numerous rose-cut diamonds along a line of translucent green enamel on engraved gold. The belly is a red carpet of clovers. The decoration of the head presents the Mughal style with delicacy and colour. The eyes are small rubies. Probable provenance from Jaipur in India at the beginning of the 20th century. This type of elephant was mainly produced to decorate an office. The base is detachable. Gold screws and nuts. Restoration on the trunk.
