Great Britain - 19th Century - Early to Mid - 1821 Heavy cavalry - Assault - Sabre

[ translate ]

A good and scarce mid 19th century Heavy Cavalry sword. The polished steel guard is with scrolling foliage design and the leather grip with twist wire binding. Complete with original scabbard, fitted with two loose rings. The overall in good condition most of the brown spots on the blade are some sort of oil which was used to preserve the sword the scabbard and the inside of the hand guard has traces of rust which can be restored easily. The Pattern 1821 Heavy Cavalry Officer’s Sword was the regulation combat sword for officers of Heavy Cavalry regiments from 1821 to 1912. Setting aside the Household Cavalry, who had their own pattern of swords, this encompassed around 9 regiments. When compared to the Light Cavalry with 17 regiments and countless Yeomanry and Militia you can see why this sword is rarer.
