Greek 20K+ Gold Brooch of Mastoid Form, ex-Bonhams

Ancient Greece, Hellenistic, ca. mid 4th century BCE. A beautiful conical/mastoid brooch made from finely hammered 83.6% gold sheet (equivalent to 20K+ gold) with a large gold granule at the apex, an attractive crimped border, and equidistantly placed fittings for a pin (now missing) on the obverse. A very fine example of ancient Greek goldwork. Size: 1.25" L x 1.375" W x 1.625" H (3.2 cm x 3.5 cm x 4.1 cm)
Provenance: ex-Johnson collection, Houston, Texas, USA acquired at auction between 2010 and 2013
