Greek Bronze Situla Handle - Panther w/ Art Loss Cert.

Ancient Greece, Classical Period, ca. 480 to 450 BCE. A gorgeous mold-cast bronze situla handle of a petite size depicting a leaping panther. The recessed ovoid eyes are shown with thick, bulging lids, though beneath the mounds are the elongated corners and impressed pupils of the slender, piercing eyes. Thick brows slant downwards from the curved suspension tube and with puffy jowls comprise the snout, and a set of incised striations above the flared nostrils define the whiskers. A pair of finely-shaped paws project from beneath the mouth with claws extended as if about to capture its prey. Lustrous layers of green and brown patina shroud the fierce feline in dark, earthy colors, perfect for clandestine hunting and stealthy execution. Custom lucite display stand included.
