Greek Canosan Polychrome Equestrian Figure - TL Tested

Magna Graecia, Southern Italy, Apulia, Canosa, ca. 3rd century BCE. An outstanding Canosan seated equestrian figure, possibly a warrior, with wide-spread legs as if riding a large horse. The figure holds his left arm forward with his hand positioned as if holding the reigns of his horse and his right arm is raised as if holding a banner or switch to spur on his ride. He wears a handsome cuirass with a striated garment covering the hips/thighs, and leggings below. His facial features are nicely modeled presenting a serious countenance and framed by a crown of wild, wavy hair as if blowing in the wind while he rides. Liberal and very colorful pigment still remains - chocolate brown brunette hair, pink skin, and golden garments! Size: 6.75" H (17.1 cm); 10" H (25.4 cm) on included custom stand.

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.

Condition Report: Normal surface wear commensurate with age and yet there are incredible remains of colorful pigment on the surfaces. Scattered mineral deposits as shown. He objects once held in his hands and the steed are missing, but with a little imagination, one can almost hear the galloping horse!
