Greece, Hellenistic Period, ca. 3rd to 1st century BCE. A beautiful earring, comprised of 92% gold (equivalent to 22K+ gold), with a thin terminal and a curving midsection which is twisted to mimic the appearance of gold wire. The main body of the earring depicts a stylized lion head with a flowing mane, cupped ears, a short snout, and a conical body adorned with gold filigree. A small hole in the lion's mouth shows how the pin would have originally been secured within an ear. Size: 0.9" L x 0.3" W x 0.95" H (2.3 cm x 0.8 cm x 2.4 cm); quality of gold: 92% gold (equivalent to 22K+); total weight: 1.9 grams.

Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.

#143020
Condition Report: Not wearable in current condition, however a reputable jeweler could probably create a setting with a suspension hook to make it so. Slight bending to overall form of pin and pin body, with light softening to some finer details on lion head, and very light encrustations within some recessed areas, otherwise intact and excellent. Light earthen deposits and fine patina throughout.
