Greek Hellenistic Pottery Spindle Vessel

Greece, Hellenistic Period, ca. 3rd to 2nd century BCE. A tall wheel-thrown terracotta spindle jar with a wide foot and elongated pedestal base, a slender piriform body, a cylindrical neck, narrow mouth, and a collared rim. Spindle vessels like these would have been used to hold scented perfumes or other less-common oils. Size: 10.2" H (25.9 cm).

Provenance: private Ventura County, California, USA collection, acquired in the 1980s to 1990s
