Greek, Ionia, Phocaea, ca. 387 to 326 BCE. Electrum Hecte. Obverse: Nymph head left, with hair in diadem and rolled behind the neck. Reverse: Quadripartite incuse square. Bodenstedt Ph109.2. Size: 0.4" W (1 cm); 2.55 grams

The earliest hectae - 1/6th staters, a rare coin made of electrum - came from Ionia, with Phocaea being one of the three most important mints for their production.

Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection; ex-private Clark collection, New Jersey, USA, acquired in the 1990s
