Greek Proto-Geometric Trefoil Oinochoe

[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $800**

Ancient Greece, Proto-Geometric Period, ca. 1050 to 900 BCE. A beautiful and nicely-preserved wheel-thrown pottery oinochoe with a lightly-concave base surrounded by a protruding foot, a bell-shaped body, a rounded shoulder which tapers to a cylindrical neck, a wide rim with a trefoil-style pouring spout, and a wide strap handle arching between rim and shoulder. Applied brown slip forms dozens of rings which encircle the body and neck as well as created a striped pattern along the handle, some of which have formed faint silvery iridescence, and the cream-hued ground provides for a fine chromatic base. Size: 4.6" W x 7.25" H (11.7 cm x 18.4 cm).

Provenance: ex-private French collection, Paris, France, acquired before 1970

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.

#146447
Condition Report: Small chips to tip of pouring spout, body, and handle, with minor abrasions, light encrustations, and fading to original pigmentation, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits throughout, and scattered areas of faint silvery iridescence on some painted areas.
