Good condition Oil on canvas 53 x 47 cm with frame 38 x 31 cm image size Signed with GROLL Andreas Groll GROLL, Andreas Histories, portrait and fresco painters. Born on 6 September 1850 in Vienna, died on 23 December 1907 in Vienna. Student of the Wiener Akademie under Christian Griepenkerl. He continued his studies from 1876 to 1878 in Rome and Venice, where he studied Tiepolo in particular. From 1887 he was a teacher for nude drawing at the Viennese Kunstgewerbeschule. In 1874 he exhibited his painting of Marc Anton in front of the body of Brutus after the Battle of Philippi. Early on, he turned to ecclesiastical fresco painting in continuation of Rahl's direction and in close connection with the Austrian Baroque tradition in the style of Daniel Gran. In addition to the ecclesiastical fresco paintings, he also created altarpieces. As a portraitist he was very popular, pictures of Bauernfeld, archduchess Mary Therese, Prince Alexander of Bulgaria and Princess Stephanie are known from him. From 1874 he was a member of the Viennese Künstlerhaus. The frame is sent as a gift with the picture. The painting belongs to me and is now being sold!
