Group 18 1971

This rare collection of works by Fine Arts lecturers of the Institute of Technology, Bandung, who formed Group 18. They include artists Ahmad Sadali, Mochtar Apin, A.D. Pirous, Sunaryo, Rita Widagdo, Sanento Yuliman, and Samsudin Hardjakusumah, Umi Dachlan, Erna Pirous, Jusuf Affendi, But Muchtar, G. SIdharta, Surja Pernawa, Kaboel Suadi, Harjadi Suadi, T. Sutanto, and Rustam Arief. All the black and white screen printed works of the 1971 project were printed on paper. Senior artist Sadali presented his typical triangular composition, while But Muchtar worked on a sketch of one of his sculptures. A.D. Pirous showed his calligraphy work, while Srihadi drew a young woman. Mochtar Apin and Sunaryo each showed their versions of a lying woman's body. Samsudin of the famous band or musical group Trio Bimbo presented a composition of horizontal and upright lines. The entire work, all without titles, has been printed 400 copies, 50 in the special edition is numbered I to L (roman numerals), while 350 of the standard edition is numbered 1 - 350. This collection is edition 154/350. The works seem to be part of the history of acceptance of the screen printing technique as part of graphic arts in Indonesia in the 1970s.
