A Great War ‘Western Front’ D.S.O. group of four awarded to Lieutenant-Colonel T. A. Barron, 1/1st North Midland Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps (Territorial Force)Distinguished Service Order, G.V.R., silver-gilt and enamel, with integral top ribbon bar; 1914-15 Star (Major T. A. Barron, R.A.M.C.); British War and Victory Medals, with M.I.D. oak leaves (Lt. Col. T. A. Barron.) together with case of issue for D.S.O., the lid fitted with a plated plaque engraved ‘Lt. Col. Thomas Ashby Barron, 1/1 North Mid. Fd. Amb. R.A.M.C. (TF) was decorated with this order by King George V at Buckingham Palace, June 22, 1918.’, medals lacquered, nearly very fine (4) £800-£1,200---D.S.O. London Gazette 3 June 1918.M.I.D. London Gazette 24 December 1917 and 25 May 1918.Thomas Ashby Barron was born in about 1872 and studied medicine at St Bartholomew’s, London. In 1912 he was living at Spondon, near Derby, and was a Captain in the 1st North Midland Field Ambulance (Territorial) at Derby. He was promoted to Major on 1 January 1914, and served in France with the 46th (North Midland) Division from 26 February 1915. He was in command of a Field Ambulance from 28 May to 19 July, 1917, from 16 November to 3 December, 1917, and from 9 June 1918. He was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel on 16 February 1920; was Assistant Director of Medical Services, Defence Force, 17 April to 10 July, 1921; and took command of 137th Field Ambulance in 1924. He resigned his commission as Colonel on 2 July 1925.
