Guerrero Mezcala Greenstone Anthropoid Figures (2)

[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $300**

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. Two finely preserved anthropoid figures of characteristically abstract forms, both hand-carved from mottled forest-green stone with light and dark inclusions. The shorter figure exhibits a squat body with attenuated limbs, a thick neck, and a biconically-drilled suspension hole on the verso. The face presents with drilled eyes, a broad forehead, and a vertical bulge in the center. The taller figure features defined arms and legs, sloping shoulders, and a cylindrical head with ovoid eyes and a petite nose. The drilled suspension holes through the feet and head suggest this piece was a figurative bead or amulet. Size: 1.125" W x 2.9" H (2.9 cm x 7.4 cm); 3.3" H (8.4 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Ohio, USA collection

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
