Guerrero Mezcala Greenstone Face Pendant

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala, ca. 500 to 100 BCE. A lovely and petite pendant carved from mottled sage-green stone with dense dark-green and orange-brown inclusions. The trapezoidal maskette pendant features drilled, crescent-shaped eyes and cheeks, string-cut brow lines, lips, and nasolabial folds, and a rounded coiffure with several vertical incised striations. Biconically-drilled suspension holes on the temples enable this piece to be worn as a pendant. Size: 1.5" W x 1.5" H (3.8 cm x 3.8 cm).

Provenance: private Los Angeles County, California, USA collection, acquired by descent from the owner's father, collection amassed between 1950-1990
