Guerrero Mezcala Stone Amulet Figure

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. A fine standing figure of a characteristically abstract form, hand-carved from mottled sage-green stone with beige and dark-green inclusions. The figure presents with fused legs, a stocky abdomen, slender arms draped to the waist, and biconically drilled suspension holes through each sloping shoulder. The elongated head presents drilled eyes and string-cut grooves defining the nose, lips, and eye brows. A fine and early example from ancient Mexico! Size: 1.5" W x 3.9" H (3.8 cm x 9.9 cm); 5.1" H (13 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Los Angeles County, California, USA collection, acquired by descent from the owner's father, collection amassed between 1950-1990
