Guerrero Mezcala Stone Axe God, ex-Arnovick

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 600 to 100 BCE. A hand-carved stone axe god figure, of characteristically abstract form, standing atop a pair of string-cut legs. Shallow string-cut grooves define the arms and waistline while additional grooves constitute the mouth, eyes, and neckline. Scholars believe figures like this were created after a utilitarian stone axe head became broken or otherwise unusable. Size: 2.1" W x 5.2" H (5.3 cm x 13.2 cm); 5.8" H (14.7 cm) on included custom stand.
