HARRISON BIRD BROWN (CA/ME/UK, 1831-1915)
Coastal Storm and Fog, oil on canvas, initialed lower left, depicting wind lashed pale green water meeting granite and pine, in the original Victorian gilt gesso deep cove frame, OS: 21 1/2" x 32 1/2", SS: 12 1/2" x 22 1/2". Losses to frame.Brown was born in Portland, Maine. He is known for his marine paintings and his views of the White Mountains of New Hampshire, most famously the Crawford Notch area. After showing at the National Academy from 1858-1875, he moved to London to live with his daughter, where he died. Provenance: From Private Collection, Harpswell, ME.
