An old gaffer whose wild affect and mad pad mark him as a practitioner of weird science prepares to die for his crimes against nature. In the nether world of pre-Code comics, science is typically portrayed as a means for demented doctors and crazed clinicians to impose their will over God's domain. As cultural scholar David J. Skal posits in Screams of Reason: Mad Science and Modern Culture [Norton: 1998], the mad scientist, as depicted in pulps, novels, movies and comic books, "is a necessary lightning rod for our otherwise unbearable anxieties about the consequences of modern science and technology."
A limited edition of 150 softcover and 15 hardcover catalogues is available. 400 lots, fully illustrated. Fun reference, great keepsake. Softcover $30, deluxe hardcover with dust jacket and limitation plate $200. Ten of the 15 hardcovers are pre-ordered and the rest will go quickly, so reserve yours now.
