fouldar side, approx. 90x90 cm. Labeled. Box included.

Born on 24 November 1903 in Sheffield, UK, of French parents, Philippe Ledoux had a significant influence on Hermès, particularly on their iconic Hermès Carré scarves. Ledoux created some of the most collected and sought-after Hermès scarves, including Napoléon, La Comédie Italienne and Cosmos, as well as other popular designs such as Springs, Groenland, Harnais de Cour and La Promenade de Longchamps.

Ledoux grew up with the artistic influence of his mother, Marie Villaret, a watercolorist and illustrator. After studying at the Academies of Painting and Drawing in Paris, he lived for a period in London before returning to France, where he began working as a book illustrator. During the Second World War he served as a liaison officer in the British Army, while his wife, Madeleine Gautier, stayed at home and wrote her diary, The Boots on the Mat: Journal of an Occupied Woman.

After the war, Ledoux began working for Hermès in 1947, creating over 90 designs for the brand. His skillful and delicate illustrations and his sense of composition and accuracy made him one of the most influential designers for Hermès. His designs for Hermès, particularly his silk scarves, have become an essential part of the brand's heritage.Show more
