Motif with birds.

Antoine de Jacquelot du Boisrouvray is a well-known French painter and wallpaper designer, best known for his work with Hermès. Born in 1938 in Anjou, France, he has dedicated his life to the rare profession of peintre cartonnier (painter of wallpaper-style models). He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Bourges and the École des Métiers d'Art in Paris, and developed his skills under the tutelage of artists such as Perrot and Maurice André.

After receiving his Diplôme des Métiers d'Art in 1962, de Jacquelot began his career as a color consultant for Royal Paris in 1963. In 1990, he began collaborating with Hermès, creating some of their most iconic scarves, such as La vie au grand air, Les merises and Casse-Noisette. In addition to Hermès, he has also worked with the Italian company Ratti since 1992.

De Jacquelot draws inspiration from nature and is known for his careful observation of plants and animals, which he portrays with the precision of a naturalist. His artistic skill as a wallpaper designer is also evident in his ability to transform sketches into large, detailed patterns used by the craftsmen in their weaving.

Although digital and photographic techniques now dominate wallpaper design, de Jacquelot is one of the last active peintres cartonniers in France, preserving the tradition of hand-drawn wallpaper series models. His work has been exhibited in several exhibitions, including at a retrospective in the Pôle de la Porcelaine in Mehun-sur-Yèvre, where his Aubusson wallpapers and Hermès designs were exhibited.

De Jacquelot has even experimented with painting on unusual surfaces, such as dried gourds from his garden, further enhancing his reputation as a versatile and accomplished artist.Show more
