HIGH CONDITION WINCHESTER DELUXE 1873 .22 RIFLE

[ translate ]

Serial #433145. Barrel length 24". Caliber .22. Made in 1892. The factory letter confirms this gun was shipped on Aug18, 1892 as a .22 rifle, octagon barrel, plain trigger, checkered stock with pistol grip, special order drop of stock 4 3/4", blued frame. This is exactly how the rifle looks today. Sights are standard Winchester semi-buckhorn rear and German nickel front with case color hammer and lever and no trap door. The grain of stock is on fire, absolutely incredible. Wood is slightly shy at tang. The checkering is all visible and while not sharp, is well defined. The barrel and tube appear to have about 85% original factory blue but under light, you can see a consistent patina. The frame shows some brilliant blue but majority is a pleasing blue mixing with patina. Legends are sharp. The wood, besides the brilliant grain, are excellent with no problems of mention save minor impressions and a closed 1/8" hairline at upper tang that is barely noticeable but mentioned for accuracy. The bore is fairly thin. A handsome and extremely rare deluxe .22 Winchester 1873 as very few were ever ordered with special features. Since most of these rifles were made for boys, very few were ordered in deluxe configuration. A nearly identical profile of this rifle can be seen in Madis book on page 187. This has to be one of the finest deluxe 22 caliber rifles extant. (A)
