Harp by Sebastian and Pierre Erard with patent number 2796, made in Paris second half S. XIX.
Partially golden maple root wood, Gothic style, which was so fashionable at the time. Signed
Erard 15 rue du Mail Paris .
Erard from Strasbourg, settles in Paris where he achieved fame as a manufacturer of musical
instruments and achieved the protection of Louis XVI and later Napoleon’s. The French
Revolution drives him to move to London with great success as well. His nephew Pierre (1794-
1855) has been in charge of the London business since 1814 and later on the death of his
uncle, the French office was specialized in pianos, while the English one specialized in harps.
