Kawase Hasui (Japanese, 1883-1957) Zojoji Temple in Shiba (Shiba Zojoji), from the series Twenty Views of Tokyo, 1925 (14th year of Taisho) Woodblock in colors on laid paper 15-1/4 x 10-1/4 inches (38.7 x 26.0 cm) (sheet; vertical oban) Signed and sealed, lower left; titled and dated, left margin Published by Watanabe Shozaburo (as indicated in right margin) HID09710052018 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved

Condition Report: A beautiful winter scene with falling snow indicative of the shin-hanga movement which initiated in large part by the publisher of this print, Watanabe Shozaburo. The condition of the work is consistent with its age. Some minor handling dents with a few hard creases, primarily along right edge. Mild fading to the work, primarily evident in red inked areas. A few small (1/8" to 1/4") tears inward along right edge of sheet, do not appear to impact image. A negligible loss to the sheet along upper left edge, extremely small (1/16" x 1/4"). Areas of paper tape residue on verso, appears to be archival due to lack of toning and does not appear to impact recto image. Unframed.
