Deep rich color, tied by bold strike of 6-section grid of squares cancel, matching "Honolulu Hawaiian-Islands Nov. 14" (1868) circular datestamp on cover to Samuel Brown in Amesbury Mass., used with United States 10c Green, E Grill (89), tied by circle of Vs cancel, "San Francisco Cal. Nov. 26" circular datestamp, red "Hawaiian Steam Service" oval handstamp, 10c corner crease at bottom left, cover with small piece out at bottom right, still Very Fine, carried on the steamer Idaho, departing Honolulu Nov. 14, 1868, arriving San Francisco Nov. 26, the Gregory book records only three examples of this unusual 6-section grid of squares cancel, used at Honolulu on Nov. 14 or Dec. 5, 1868, a fourth has now been recorded and is offered in the following lot, illustrated in the Gregory book (Vol. 2, p. 241), ex Peters
