Cancelled by unusual 6-section grid of squares handstamp, "Honolulu Hawaiian-Islands Apr. 22" (1869) circular datestamp on cover to Miss Josephine Wendenberg in San Francisco and forwarded to Vallejo Cal., United States 10c Green (68) has been replaced, red "Hawaiian Steam Service" oval handstamp, carried on the steamer Idaho, departing Honolulu Apr. 22, 1869 arriving San Francisco May 6, "San Francisco Cal. May 6" circular datestamp, blue crayon forwarding instructions including "ford. 3cts", docketing on back reads "1869 Recd. May 7 per 'Idaho', Dated April 22. Ans. May 11 pr. 'Idaho' with photos from Leonora", barely reduced at right, some overall toning, otherwise Fine, the Gregory book records only three examples of this unusual 6-section grid of squares cancel, this fourth and newly discovered example was unknown to the author
