Hellenistic Greek Terracotta Statuette of Woman

[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $500**

Greece, Hellenistic Period, ca. late 4th century to 1st century BCE. A pretty, mold-made ceramic statuette of a woman, probably made to be votive or placed into a grave. The woman stands, draped in a carefully-depicted, draped and folded himation that she holds with both hands. Her hair is up in a sakkos, a cone-like headdress/coiffure. Nice remaining pigment on the piece gives an idea of what it would have looked like when made, with white over much of the surface and glimmers of pink and blue pigment on the lower part of the himation. Size: 2.05" W x 6.25" H (5.2 cm x 15.9 cm)

Provenance: private Houston, Texas, USA collection; ex-Bonhams, London, Knightsbridge Antiquities Auction (May 8, 2013, part of lot 157); ex-Joseph Klein collection, New York, New York, USA, formed between 1941 and 1980, thence by descent

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.
