Lot notes:
The artwork presented here was used as the cover for the novel Ninon de Lenclos Amoureuse (Ninon de Lenclos in Love) by Jean de Tinan, published by the Mercure de France. Certainly a very appropriate novel for Lautrec to be illustrating, Ninon de Lenclos (1623-1705) was the most well known 17th century French courtesan.
