Along with Edward Troye, Henry Stull is considered by many to have been the outstanding painter of thoroughbred horses in the United States in the late nineteenth century. This portrait of Dobbins was completed shortly after the magnificent thoroughbred was acquired by Richard Croker for $20,200.
