with various inscriptions, the reverse cotton lining with two unidentified printed dark brown fine lined different monogram stamps, possibly from the merchant, shipping agent or maker, one being circular, the other a square, each enclosing a different monogram.

Condition Report:
The naturally yellow hue of the wild silk threads used for the overall design are evenly faded in colour to a gentle corn yellow.
The monochrome panel is worked with a variety of stitches including small running stitches and combinations of chain, back, running and the use of knots. There are some minute areas of orange coloured staining in places. There is some pulling and knapping, but overall embroidery is in very good condition. The quilting between all the motifs is achieved with lots of small seed like stitches and not with a pattern. The overall stitching being even more time consuming.
The panel is lined on the reverse, with natural coloured cotton, with two later tassels remaining, attached to reverse of coverlet. A band of later complimentary fringing is attached to all edges. On the lining there are two unidentified printed dark brown fine lined different monogram stamps, being circular (enclosing PIR?), the other with a square (enclosing possibly a Tamil mark). There are areas with stitching showing that have come through from repairs made on the front of the Colcha.
Overall this coverlet is in very good condition. The fading is even overall which does not effect the overall appearance of this dynamic and exuberant, and exotic panel.
