The first volume in contemporary mottled calf gilt but worn, the second volume finely bound to match. 8 x 5 inches; the first volume with parts I-IV, 335 pp.; the second volume with parts V-VII, paginated [236]-443, [1]-120, [1]-123 pp. The contemporary binding worn with detached covers and a loss to spine, worthy of repair or rebinding to match the modern binding, some toning, foxing and intermittent stains, tear to last text leaf, small loss to penultimate leaf in volume II, with a slip laid-in indicating this set sold by Maurice Inman, Inc.
First edition, first issue containing the first appearances of two of Irving's most enduring stories "Rip Van Winkle" and "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow."
