Icon, Holiday icon - Wood - 19th century

Above-average large antique Russian icon “holidays” from the 19th century. Hand-painted with egg tempera colours on a wooden panel with chalk background. Typical method of icon production in the 18th and 19th century in the Tsarist period of Russia. The painting is still particularly detailed and was rather roughly executed by icon writers (see photos) . However, the colour contrasts were well matched and the shades were skilfully executed. All Biblical scenes and the saints are labelled. The inscriptions are easy to read. The icon is in good condition with signs of wear commensurate with age (see photos) . The painting has very authentic and fine craquelure. The size of the icon alone is impressive. Two wooden laths are attached on the top and bottom ends of the back. Stable and heavy wooden panel. In the middle runs a vertical crack, which, however, hardly affects the painting (see photos) . The painting has some abrasions and bumps (see photos) . Partial restorations are present.
