Icon, Month icon "September" - Wood - 19th century

Ancient Russian icon/monthly icon "September" from the 19th century. Hand-painted with egg tempera colours on a wooden panel with chalk background and on golden primer. Typical method of icon production in the 18th and 19th century in the Tsarist period of Russia. The painting is relatively detailed. Perfectly matched colour contrasts and accomplished shading. The painting was probably varnished and therefore looks rather dark to the viewer. The icon is in good condition with typical age-related signs of wear in the form of scratches, paint flaking and bumps (see photos) . All saints are labelled. The inscriptions are clearly legible. Two transverse wooden laths are installed on the back. The painting has very fine and authentic craquelure. Partial restorations are present. The size of the icon is not to be neglected.
