Icon, Our Lady of Vladimir - Wood - Early 19th century

[ translate ]

Antique Russian icon "God Mother of Vladimir" from the 19th century. Hand-painted with egg tempera colours on a wooden panel with chalk background. Typical method of icon production in the 18th and 19th century in the Tsarist period of Russia. The painting is very masterful and authentically executed. Our Lady almost casts a real glance at the viewer. Perfectly matched colour contrasts and accomplished shading. Particularly striking are the faces and the gaze of the Mother of God. The icon was probably made in central Russia around 1850. The painting has age-related craquelure. Partial restorations and corrections are present. The icon is in acceptable condition with typical age-related signs of wear and tear in the shape of paint flaking and bumps (see photos) . The painting detaches itself from the wooden panel in many places (see photos) . In my opinion, the icon is in need of restoration. The saints are labelled. The inscriptions are clearly legible. At the top and bottom are cross-sponkis attached. All details are well-visible in the photos. The photos are part of the description. Dimensions: 30. 5 x 26 x 2. 6 cm This is a private sale.
