Ancient Russian icon "The Beheading of St. John the Baptist" from the 19th century. Hand-painted with egg tempera colours on a wooden panel with chalk background. Typical method of icon production in the 18th and 19th century in the Tsarist period of Russia. Relatively detailed painting. In particular, the armour of the soldier. Perfectly matched colour contrasts and accomplished shading. The icon and the saints are labelled. The inscriptions are clearly legible. Relatively rare and sought-after motif. Two wooden laths are attached on the top and bottom ends of the back. Heavy and solid wooden panel. All details are well-visible in the photos. The photos are part of the description. The icon is painted in the famous and praised style of Neviansk. Dimensions: 27 x 22. 5 x 3 cm This is a private sale.
