BIOGRAPHY:
Ida May Carr attended various grade schools and graduated from West Conshohoken Hill School in 1923. She moved from West Conshohoken to Ambler in 1958.She was very active and pursued a variety of interests during her lifetime. As an artist, she was known for her painting, and many of her works won top honors in local competitions over the years. She studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and was a member of its Fellowship.At the age of 69 in 1974, she became interested in martial arts. Awarded an honorary first-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do (Korean Karate) in 1975, she became the oldest person to achieve the distinction of full-fledged first-degree black belt in 1977. Remaining commited to this discipline, she was awarded the rank of 3rd degree black belt in 1985.
