A period portrait painting Of Atlanta Mayor Jared Irwin Whitaker in original frame, artist unknown. Whittaker became the city's 14th mayor in the early days of the War between the States. He left office soon after, following an appointment to the post of Georgia's Commissary General. Whittaker's role in Georgia history is significant by virtue of the fact that he was politically active in the era of the American Civil War. This fine painting comes from a distinguished Southern estate. The frame measures 35.5" x 30 1/4". Sight dimensions are 30 1/4" x 25 1/4".
