Inlaid Cherry Serpentine Chest of Four Drawers

Inlaid Cherry Serpentine Chest of Four Drawers, attributed to Nathan Lumbard, Sturbridge or Sutton, Massachusetts, c. 1800-05, the top with inlaid edge and applied quarter-round beaded strip at rear above a conforming case of four drawers bordered by contrasting banding and fine alternating stringing, on molded and shaped bracket feet inlaid with similar stringing and quarterfans, original brasses, refinished, ht. 35, wd. 40 3/4, dp. 21 1/4 in.

Provenance: Reportedly owned by the descendants of Alexander Hamilton, including Helen Bowdoin Spaulding and Alexander Hamilton Spaulding. Purchased by the consignor from Schwenke, c. 2012.
